Registering your address (Anmeldung)
Moving into a flat in Germany. Filled samples for a student and a family.
Forms explained
Your landlord confirms in writing that you moved in. Without this paper you cannot register your address, so ask for it when you get the keys.
Official forms: Heilbronn · Neu-Ulm · Ulm. The landlord can use any city’s form or write it themselves, as long as it contains the same information.
This is general information, not legal, visa or tax advice. Rules can change and your case may differ. Always check with the responsible office.
If your landlord refuses to confirm your move-in, or you don’t get the confirmation in time, you must tell the registration office straight away. That is your legal duty, and it protects you: you have done your part even without the paper. Do it before your 14 days run out.
A flat offered “without Anmeldung” (no registration possible) is a warning sign: you are required to register within 14 days, and not registering can be fined up to €1,000.00.
