If you move abroad and give up your flat in Germany, you must deregister. Moving within Germany? Then you don’t: just register at the new place.

There is usually no form to fill in beforehand. At the registration office the staff enter your details, you check a printout and sign it. You can deregister family members who lived with you at the same time.
It is free and usually done on the spot.
